Jambalaya: What Is It?
A one-pot meal consisting of rice, veggies, and either meat or fish is called jambalaya. Jambalaya, which has Spanish and French roots, is quite similar to paella. The Provençal word “jambalaia,” meaning jumble, is perhaps where the name “jambalaya” originates.
The Cajun holy trinity, which consists of onion, bell peppers, and celery, is the foundation of jambalaya, as it is for many other Cajun and Creole dishes.
Ingredients:
- Chicken (boneless) 2 cups (cut into cubes)
- Beef steak (steamed) 450 grams
- Butter 4 tablespoons
- Shrimp (cleaned and cooked) 24 pieces
- Basmati rice 3 cups
- Flour cup
- Onion (finely sliced) 3 pieces
- Green capsicum 2 pieces (seeded and sliced)
- Tomato 675 grams (peeled and chopped)
- Garlic cloves 2-3 pieces (minced)
- Thyme (chopped) 2 teaspoons
- Water 5 cups
- Tobasco sauce 2-3 drops
- Parsley as needed
- Salt, black pepper powder as needed
How to Prepare Jambalaya?
Add salt and black pepper powder to the chicken pieces. Cut the steaks into small cubes. Now melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the chicken pieces to it, brown them and remove with the help of a ladle. Reduce the heat and add the onion to the saucepan and fry it for a while. Then add the flour to it and fry it until golden brown and add the fried meat pieces again. Now add the beef steaks, capsicums, tomatoes, garlic and thyme and cook for 10 minutes while stirring continuously. Now add the prawns and mix lightly. Then add the rice to the pan and add water. Add salt, black pepper powder and Tobasco sauce. Let it boil. Once it boils, cook on medium heat until it dries and the rice is cooked. If the rice is not cooked and the water has dried up, add a little hot water. Finally, add the parsley and serve hot
