Introducing my classic Garden Salad! Yep, the one I can prepare any day because I always have these vegetables on hand. Occasionally, I even go all out and garnish with parsley.
When it comes to garden salads, there aren’t many restrictions. Any kind of greens or veggies will work, as long as they’re combined with a traditional, straightforward salad dressing. Take this and make it your own!
My salad in the garden
Usually, I offer an overview of the recipe that I’m giving. However, I can’t seem to think of anything clever or a humorous backstory concerning garden salad.
I wish I could claim that fresh, crisp organic vegetables from my garden went into making this salad. Since this was the only salad my devoted mother could prepare when I was a child, I want to be able to tell you that she holds a special place in my heart.
At the very least, I want to be able to state that this is the authentic, original, classic, and ultimate version of garden salad.
However, I have nothing. Not a sentimental past, and no authority on this subject. This is just my go-to everyday salad that I prepare “every time,” for no other reason than that it’s made with the most common vegetables that somehow end up in my grocery cart every single week!
I’m sure you prepare a similar salad, as most houses in the nation do. A garden salad is a fantastic leveler!
Ingredients of my Garden Salad
Having said that, these are the usual ingredients I use in my garden salad.
I won’t lie, though. These days, iceberg lettuce seems so, well, eighties that it doesn’t usually make it into my grocery cart Though it’s about as trendy as a huge, hairsprayed perm, it is rather regular when in season since it’s crunchy, sweet, and quite damned good. Any type of leafy green will always be in my fridge, even if it’s not iceberg lettuce.
Dressing for Garden Salad
My go-to salad dressing consists of one part vinegar to three parts olive oil, thickened with Dijon mustard to improve emulsification and better adhere to the salad, and lightly seasoned with salt and pepper.
If you want to make your Garden Salad even better, you may add fresh or dried herbs, garlic, and lemon zest, among many other flavoring possibilities. In the recipe notes, I’ve also included a few recommendations.
Fundamentally, though, this is the simple salad dressing that I “always” use.
That’s all I have to say about my garden salad, pals.
Oh, I wish every recipe I posted could be as concise and direct as this one! – Nagi x
PS: The three easy side salads I’m presenting today don’t include a video! (This Italian bread salad, panzanella, and a blood orange salad). However, do let us know below if you would truly like a video recipe for garden salad!
