You most likely already have the items needed to make this simple donut recipe. Since there is rarely any waiting time, my 3-year-old enjoys these donuts since he can take them whenever he wants. You can use any kind of topping, but our favorite is powdered sugar!

Ingredients
- Half a cup of milk
- Two tablespoons of white vinegar
- Half a cup of white sugar
- Two tablespoons of shortening
- One huge egg
- Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Two cups of all-purpose flour, sifted
- Half a teaspoon of baking soda
- Half a teaspoon of salt
- One quart of deep-frying oil
- Half a cup of powdered sugar for sprinkling
Instructions step by step
Step:1
Collect all of the components.
Step:2
Mix the vinegar and milk together, then let for a few minutes to thicken.

In a mixing dish, cream sugar and shortening until smooth.

Beat in the egg and vanilla until incorporated

In a another dish, sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together. Then, alternately whisk the sugar mixture with the milk mixture.

On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/3 inch.

Use a donut cutter to cut into donuts. Give it ten minutes or so to stand.

In a big deep skillet, heat the oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Batch-fry the donuts in heated oil until brown, flipping once, 1 to 2 minutes per side.

Use paper towels to drain.
Step:10
While still heated, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
